Living in Cranston

Cranston is a planned residential community in southeast Calgary. Development of the former farmland began in 1999. The community is bounded by Stoney Trail to the north, Deerfoot Trail to the east, and Fish Creek Provincial Park and the Bow River to the west and south. That setting is a big part of Cranston’s appeal: pathways lead down the escarpment into Fish Creek Park and along the Bow River, connecting to the city’s regional pathway network. Riverstone, a district within Cranston, is bordered by natural green space and the park.

Amenities. Century Hall is Cranston’s residents’ facility, owned and run by the Cranston Residents Association. Its 7-acre park includes tennis courts, a hockey rink, basketball courts, a playground and a splash park, and the hall has a full-size gym. Access comes with the residents association fee: for 2026/27, $180.50 plus GST for standard properties and $493 plus GST for Riverstone properties, due April 1. Cranston Market, across from Century Hall, has shops and services, and the South Health Campus hospital and the Seton urban district are just east across Deerfoot Trail.

Housing. Cranston is mostly detached homes in a wide range of sizes and ages, along with townhomes, semi-detached homes and some apartment-style condos. Homes on the ridge or backing onto green space are usually priced differently from interior lots.

Getting around. Stoney Trail and Deerfoot Trail are next to the community. Calgary Transit routes 14, 75 and 79 run through Cranston and link it with Seton and the South Health Campus, and routes 14 and 75 continue west to Somerset–Bridlewood CTrain station.

Schools. Cranston School and Dr. George Stanley School (Calgary Board of Education) and Christ the King School and Our Lady of the Rosary School (Calgary Catholic) are in the community. School designations change from year to year, so check the CBE and Calgary Catholic school finders for a specific address.

Buying and selling in Cranston. Cranston has been established for more than two decades, so homes vary widely by age, builder and lot. Good comparables need to match phase, home style and lot type, not just square footage. On older homes, roof, furnace and hot-water-tank ages matter to buyers, and a licensed home inspection is strongly recommended.
