Which school boards serve Cochrane?

Rocky View Schools, the Calgary Catholic School District and Conseil scolaire FrancoSud.

Buying in Cochrane: our local take

As of November 4, 2026, our site shows 369 homes for sale in Cochrane. Median asking prices: detached houses $699,000 (196); semi-detached and duplexes $519,999 (83); townhouses $429,900 (71); condos and apartments $315,000 (19). These are asking prices from the REALTOR.ca DDF® feed, not sale prices; ask us for recent sold prices.

What we like

  • A real town centre: Cochrane’s historic main street and the Bow River are close to most neighbourhoods.
  • Calgary is reachable by road. The Highway 1A and Highway 22 interchange is open, and Highway 22 leads south to the Trans-Canada Highway.
  • Calgary Catholic schools serve Cochrane, so Catholic education doesn’t mean commuting into the city.
  • Lots of choice, from older homes near downtown to new neighbourhoods on the edge of town.

What to weigh up

  • There is no CTrain, and most commuters drive Highway 1A or the Trans-Canada into Calgary.
  • Fast growth means construction and busier roads at peak times.
  • For homes near the Bow River or the creeks, check the Alberta flood maps.
  • Property taxes and utility rates are set by the Town of Cochrane, not Calgary, so ask for the latest tax bill.

Who it suits

Buyers who want a small-town main street and river valley views within driving distance of Calgary, families who want the choice of public, Catholic or francophone schools, and people who work in northwest Calgary or toward the mountains.

Commute and getting around

Highway 1A runs east to northwest Calgary, and Highway 22 connects south to the Trans-Canada Highway. Inside town, COLT (Cochrane On-demand Local Transit) runs three fixed routes plus on-demand service. Check current commuter bus options before you rely on transit to get into Calgary.

Before you make an offer

  • Check the Alberta flood maps for homes near the Bow River or its creeks.
  • Ask for the latest Town of Cochrane tax notice and utility costs.
  • For a new build, check the Alberta new home warranty and the builder’s deficiency list.
  • Confirm which school serves the address with Rocky View Schools and Calgary Catholic.
